A healthy meniscus acts as a shock absorber and provides a smooth surface for your knee to glide on. A tear in the meniscus prevents your knee from rotating, causing pain and locking.

Your surgeon may opt to perform a minimally invasive, arthroscopic procedure in order to trim or repair the tear. These surgeries involve a small incision through which a scope and a specialized surgical instrument are inserted to better visualize and perform the operation.
