Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgeon Dr. Riley J. Williams writes for The New York Times soccer blog about the differences in treatment and recovery of professional and recreational athletes. "The real difference between the professional and recreational athlete," he says, "is in the medical support that exists for elite athletes."

Dr. Williams is also medical director of the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and the NBA's Nets.
