Jacob deGrom placed on DL

ESPN New York—Philadelphia—August 11, 2014

The New York Mets placed reigning NL Rookie of the Month Jacob deGrom on the disabled list with rotator cuff tendinitis on Monday.

Right-hander Rafael Montero will be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas and is expected to make two starts, beginning Tuesday against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.

DeGrom (6-5, 2.87 ERA) experienced shoulder soreness after his last start. He was examined by team doctor Struan Coleman, MD, PhD on Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, and assistant general manager John Ricco said deGrom has been prescribed anti-inflammatory medication.
