Meet Jordan D. Metzl, M.D., My Favorite Sports-medicine Doctor

Vanity Fair--Beauty Blog—May 21, 2012

You know the saying “Practice what you preach?” Well, meet my sports medicine physician, Jordan D. Metzl, M.D., of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He’s a total rock star in his field, because he literally practices what he preaches. Known fact: he’s a triathlete himself (having run 29 marathons and completed nine Ironmans in record time), so when you talk to him about your joints and muscle aches—and all sorts of sports-related injuries—you feel very confident that he knows exactly what you are talking about and how to address it. And now he's accomplished something super-helpful, not only for his own patients but for all the active folks out there who lead very athletic lifestyles.

Dr. Metzl's new book is called The Athlete’s Book of Home Remedies: 1,001 Doctor-Approved Health Fixes & Injury-Prevention Secrets for a Leaner, Fitter, More Athletic Body!. It’s filled with things you should know—and need to know—about your body, injuries, and prevention. There are also “body-specific stories” on back pains, knees, getting clear on concussions, and the five most common sports injuries and how to deal with them.

This book is comprehensively illustrated throughout, and Dr. Metzl (with Mike Zimmerman) has made it easy for anyone to get educated about exercising correctly and understanding one’s own body.
