Rivera injured his right knee May 3 while shagging fly balls in the outfield before a game in Kansas City against the Royals. The all-time saves leader had not had the surgery up until now because of a blood clot in his right calf. Rivera said the blood clog cleared up last week -- Tuesday or Thursday - and he was given the green light to schedule the surgery. He said if he didn't suffer the blood clog he would've already had the surgery but it allowed him to strengthen the knee for the surgery.
