New Sports Rehabilitation and Sports Performance Centers Open at Hospital for Special Surgery

New York—September 6, 2012

The James M. Benson Sports Rehabilitation Center and Tisch Sports Performance Center will open at Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, providing athletes with the ultimate training experience.

The new Centers will offer multi-disciplinary and comprehensive activities for those who want to improve performance, whether they are recovering from an orthopedic or sports related injury or seeking to take their fitness to the next level.

“Today, individuals of all ages and abilities want to be more active and involved in achieving their fitness goals,” said JeMe Cioppa-Mosca, PT, MBA, vice president, Department of Rehabilitation, HSS. “Our redesigned facilities combined with our expert rehabilitation and performance staff offer patients and clients the broadest continuum of care in a safe medical environment.”

The new Centers, located on the ground floor of the Belaire Building, 525 East 71st Street (across from the main hospital building), feature private examining rooms, custom designed massage rooms, an aquatics program, an antigravity treadmill, a Parvo metabolic cart, Biodex System 4, Isokinetic, 2D Dartfish video analysis and the elite Core Performance training system powered by Athlete’s Performance.

Sports Rehabilitation in a High Tech Setting

Staff at the James M. Benson Sports Rehabilitation Center work to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent or limit physical disabilities. Many of the patients who visit the Benson Center are recovering from recent surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, while others are working to postpone or eliminate the need for surgery.

A team of highly-skilled professionals that includes the physical therapist, athletic trainer and physician, works closely with patients to develop a personalized and evidence-based therapy program that best meets their needs and goals.

Sports Performance Though Professional Caliber Training

The Tisch Sports Performance Center was created to address the growing number of committed athletes and fitness enthusiasts who are taking on greater physical challenges. The goal of the Tisch Center is to help these clients reach their ultimate performance levels while reducing the risk of sports-related injury.

Under the guidance of a first-rate team of physical therapists, certified strength and conditioning specialists, a registered clinical exercise physiologist and performance specialists, athletes are individually evaluated, and then, based on their results, they receive personalized training at the Tisch Center.
