New Treatment for Children with Wry Neck

For some children born with a condition called wry neck there is a treatment that can improve just about every baby without surgery.

Wry neck is called torticollis by doctors, translated twisted neck. It is the result of a short neck muscle on one side.

At the CA Technologies Rehabilitation Center at Hospital for Special Surgery caregivers have a solution.

"The way babies can be positioned in utero can cause the head to stay in one position and it causes the neck muscles to stay contracted," says Dr. Shevaun Doyle, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery.

The physical therapist stretches out the tight neck muscle, which allows normal development.
