Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine is responsible for more than a million laboratory procedures per year on both inpatients and outpatients. The following services are provided by the department:

• Blood Transfusion and Tissue / Bone Transplantation Service
• Hematology
• Clinical Chemistry
• Microbiology
• Clinical Immunology
• Histopathology
• Venipuncture / Central Accession Office
• Cardiopulmonary / Echocardiography

Because we are located in the hospital we are able to provide direct access for our physicians and for our increasingly busy operating rooms.

Through our Laboratory Committee and interdepartmental communication, we have been able to resolve issues and concerns brought up by physicians and members of other departments in a timely manner. Through the Laboratory Compliance Committee, we ensure that the entire process from the physician’s laboratory order through the patient’s bill is compliant with regulatory requirements.

Our Quality Assurance Plan has enabled us to achieve meaningful quality indicators affecting patient care.
