As a leader in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, the success of the Virginia F. and William R. Salomon Rehabilitation Department at Hospital for Special Surgery owes itself to the extraordinary talents and efforts of the people who work within it. Our philosophy is built upon our devotion to exceptional patient care, our strong belief in teamwork, and our appreciation of each employee's uniqueness. In essence, we invest in our employees so that they can invest in their patients, and we believe that this philosophy is evident in each of our areas of focus: patient care, education, clinical research, and community service.
Patient Care
Our top priority is to provide all patients and their families who come in contact with the Rehabilitation Services Department with the highest quality of customer service and patient care. We challenge ourselves to go beyond the given standards and continuously improve our patient management and service. This includes the HSS Rehabilitation Network, which allows us to partner with the community to offer a seamless continuum of care for patients who cannot return to Hospital for Special Surgery for rehabilitation.
Education
The Rehabilitation Department is committed to the professional growth and development of all its members. Providing internal and external educational opportunities is inherent to our philosophy of realizing the uniqueness of each employee while building the department and providing the best service to our patients. The department aims to excel in educating our colleagues and our future colleagues: the students of athletic training, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
Clinical Research
Clinical research is the foundation for continuously improving treatment techniques and management skills to better serve our patients. Our Research program is deeply invested in advancing the fields of therapy and orthopedics. The results of their work has garnered awards from such organizations as the American Society of Hand Therapists, and been presented at a wide range of venues, including the Healthcare Organizations Conference and the APTA Annual Meeting.
Community Service
The Rehabilitation Services Department recognizes and believes in the involvement of its staff members in providing community service. One common goal of all health care providers is to educate and to reach out to those members in our community. We strive to achieve this through departmental, interdepartmental, and other sponsored hospital-wide activities and community programs.
Yet as proud as we are of all we’ve accomplished, the Rehabilitation Department’s first priority will always be the patient. As a team our aspirations are not to simply maintain the highest standards of rehabilitative care, but to surpass them. When a physician makes a referral to one of our sites, or through the Rehabilitation Network, they can be confident that the treatment their patient receives will be nothing short of outstanding.
